Ok, I have done the deed and formatted my harddrive. Of course I have made a back-up, doh!
After listening to Hugh’s preaching i thought about installing ubuntu linux.
It is a beautiful system, installed unbelievably fast and does not require many resources.
I fully intend to use Ubuntu or a similar system in the future.
However, I am for the time being going back to Windows XP. Yeah, Ubuntu recognised almost all my hardware automatically, but it missed out one vital bit. My printer. After longwinded searches I found out that my printer is effectively a paperweight.
Excuse me? As long as I cannot use my existing hardware for everyday jobs, I am going back to the industry standard. Sorry to be a sissy in that regard.
Also, why is it so incredibly difficult to create a simply install file for a linux system? I have nothing against fiddly bits, but hey, not when it comes to installing something like democracy, or thunderbird.
Yes, I know there are ways described to install these things, but if they don’t work it does not exactly motivate during a trial.
Anyway, with those few exceptions, I am well impressed with how far linux has come. I will give it another go when the next version comes out.
