gone shopping

Just this afternoon I went to our local supermarket to do some shopping.

I bought potatos and onions for dinner, pastrami and corned beef for breakfast and some cookies for my sister who is working so hard.

But I forgot the damn minced meat for tonight’s dinner, Spagetti Bolognese is nothing without the mince. So I have to go again.

I hate shopping, and just about the only thing I hate more than shopping is going shopping again because I forgot something the first time round.

Oh well, they say if you haven’t got it in your head (or on a list) you have to have it in your legs (or car, mhuahahaha).

Grumble. I am off.

to be or not to be…

a Samaritan. That is the question.

There I was in the car, waiting in the parking lot of the local train station, ready to pick up my sister, who was coming home from London.

Suddenly a girl knocks on my window and said: “Can you give me a lift?”

I thought that by some sort of eyesight problem she had mistaken me for a cab, so I told her she had the wrong car and taxis were over there.

She looked at me funny and walked off. A couple of minutes later, my sister’s train was running late, she came back and asked again: “Can you give me a lift?”

So I said: “Sorry, but I am waiting for someone.”

She walked off again and I saw that she kept asking other people the same thing, obviously being turned down there, too.

I assume she was short of money, not able to afford the taxi to where ever she had to go, but she also looked strange. Somewhere between being on some substance or other or just off the same substance. In short, she just didn’t look right.

She didn’t give me any reason why I should help her, neither did she say please.

I didn’t give her a lift and when my sister arrived and we drove off, she was still standing around there.

Now I feel somewhere between guilty and having escaped a murdering hitch-hiker.

What should I have done?

playing football

I absolutely dislike football (with very few exceptions). Just now I came back in from playing football in the garden with my 20 months old nephew Ben.

Unbelievable how much fun that was. I am very out of breath, too.

Gotta get back to work now.

uk mother’s day

While most parts of the world celebrate Mother’s Day (in this case normally translate as “Spend a lot of money”) on the second Sunday in May, the UK together with Ireland and Nigeria oddly do it today.

This usually means doing something for mothers in general, mostly something like breakfast and chocolates and vastly expensive greeting cards. It is also not unheard of that the day peters out in some kind of row and argument that always ensues when large percentages of any family are in close proximity of each other for several hours at a time.

Today in our household there is scope for extra huge pandemonium, as three mothers descent on the family headquarters..

My mother and two of my sisters with their small sons, 1.5 years and 1 week old respectively (I became an uncle the second time over last Sunday), will be in the same room with my dad my other sister and myself. I feel a migraine developing in the back of my head.

Happy Mother’s Day all-round then.
