I have upgraded my WordPress to version 2.6.3 and I expect that the results will be completely unnoticeable. Yes I know, it has been available for some time and I should have upgraded earlier. I was simply too emotionally attached to the previous version.

Meanwhile I am looking forward to version 2.7, which promises many great enhancements as well as a new Admin Interface.

Oh well, I get excited easily these days. Whoohooo!

Can I have a cookie now, please?

Talking about excitement, as there are now so many wonderful JADE People in London we should have some sort of massive get-together. You know, the kind where everybody drinks lots of adult beverages.

summer 2008

The last few months have been largely uneventful.

  • Beginning of June I broke my left ankle in three places, when I slipped on someones slipped drink at a friend’s birthday party.
  • I have spent the summer months at home, due to the broken ankle, following the American Presidential election primaries, first supporting Hilary Clinton and now Barack Obama.
  • Russia and Georgia have been at war. There is widespread discord as to who attacked whom and what caused the whole pandemonium. Russia said it intervened in South Ossetia and another Georgian breakaway region because Georgia had attacked there resident Russian Nationals, while many other nations have condemned the Russian activities. Both sides have bombed the place back to the stone-age. Civilans were once again the ones suffering the most.
  • Meanwhile the Olympic Games took place in China, mainly in Beijing. I have followed many of the games, watched the opening and closing ceremony and was very impressed. The next Olympic Games in London in 2012 will have very high expectations to meet. In the words of London’s Mayor Boris: Ping Pong is coming home.
  • I have in the last few weeks begun to walk again and I am getting better, so things are definitely looking up.
  • On the same day I booked a flight to Spain a plane crashed in Madrid, killing most of the passengers. It is safe to fly, repeat, it is safe to fly, it is safe to fly, it is safe to fly…
  • General Musharraf (no longer a General) resigned as President of Pakistan, causing a political vacuum that several dubious figures are furiously trying to fill.
  • Just in the last few days Russia officially recognised Abkhazia and South Ossetia as sovereign, leading to condemnation of the seven other G8 countries. Recently the news have been filled with Cold-War like rhetoric. Strong are the words coming from NATO, particularly from the US and Great Britain. However, they appear futile as Russia does not seem to be in the mood to listen.
  • UPDATE: I am now also twittering, as Hugh pointed out in the comments.

Good Night.

going back to camden

We have already cleared out all our salvageable merchandise and today I am meeting one of our suppliers in Camden to clear up some old accounts.

This is one of the very few remaining commercial links I have with this part of the great city.

On other matters, I have not yet written anything about Boris and Ken but I am planning to, soon.

Oh, having played around with the Flickr Badge has reignited my interest in coding. I will try to play around with a few more interweb thingies.

to be or not to be…

a Samaritan. That is the question.

There I was in the car, waiting in the parking lot of the local train station, ready to pick up my sister, who was coming home from London.

Suddenly a girl knocks on my window and said: “Can you give me a lift?”

I thought that by some sort of eyesight problem she had mistaken me for a cab, so I told her she had the wrong car and taxis were over there.

She looked at me funny and walked off. A couple of minutes later, my sister’s train was running late, she came back and asked again: “Can you give me a lift?”

So I said: “Sorry, but I am waiting for someone.”

She walked off again and I saw that she kept asking other people the same thing, obviously being turned down there, too.

I assume she was short of money, not able to afford the taxi to where ever she had to go, but she also looked strange. Somewhere between being on some substance or other or just off the same substance. In short, she just didn’t look right.

She didn’t give me any reason why I should help her, neither did she say please.

I didn’t give her a lift and when my sister arrived and we drove off, she was still standing around there.

Now I feel somewhere between guilty and having escaped a murdering hitch-hiker.

What should I have done?

leap year, camden, manolo

Happy Birthday all those who are only allowed to celebrate once every four years.

To all others, if you get paid an hourly rate you are fine, however, if you get a salary, paid monthly, regardless of the hours you work, YOU WILL NOT GET PAID FOR THE WORK YOU DO TODAY.

Tough, but hey at least you are a slave only one day every four years.

Regarding Camden, I have been in the market and it breaks my heart to see what happened there. We had a meeting yesterday with people from Camden Council and some of the market’s shareholders’ representatives and it looks like something is going to happen starting from Monday onwards. What exactly nobody seems to know, but some activity at last. More updates as they come in. I may even publish some photos, depends how I feel about it.

Finally, Welcome Back Manolo!

It has been a while since we saw this original Member of The Crazy Ones here and it is a pleasant surprise. Thanks for the concern Manolo, I am doing fine. There appear to be a lot more hours in the day since I don’t have to work in Camden anymore, but it gives me an opportunity to maybe do something about this website of mine.
